It was a great night in the forest behind 90-mile beach – our first night out on the trail. We were 53km down the beach and had set up camp in a little clearing among the trees – accommodation hosted by Aotearoa!

What a day to begin: sun shining down on the Far North, moderate Northerly, and a bus full of cheerful Kiwi Can kids from a range of Primary Schools in the area – one of them, Wirimu, seemed to take a like to the Pou Rongo stick and soon became its carer for the day!
