Flood bank Fun (?!)
Like most legs of The Big Walk, we’re faced with challenges that require on-the-spot decision making – during the Leg between Clevedon and Hamilton we were faced with a scenario where the students came up with an interesting solution!
After mis-reading our maps we found ourselves on the wrong side of a flood bank that traveled the distance between Mangatawhiri to Mercer. Two thirds of the way along we had to cross. There was only way thing to do – give the hearts, lungs and legs a workout and drag ourselves through the mud, weed and karp to the other side.
Here is a little footage of our two hour battle.
If you’re enjoying our updates, or have some thoughts on The Big Walk (or the importance of engaging youth in New Zealand), we’d love to hear from you. You’re welcome to leave comments below!

Well done guys. I’ve had to do this on ‘Leadership’ courses in the past without the mud, good to see you’re doing it for real.
hey remembering this time when I never thought i would look back and laugh, but here I am hahahah but it was all good fun and I really enjoyed it. except for the red spots on our legs….
